Looking for a great winter getaway? Baha Mar in Nassau, Bahamas is the perfect destination! Baha Mar is a massive, 1,000 acre resort comprised of 3 hotels: SLS Baha Mar (sexy Miami style adult hotel), Rosewood (luxury resort), and situated in the middle, Grand Hyatt (family-friendly Resort). The properties share a 100,000 sq ft casino, spa, over 30 restaurants, golf course and waterpark. Overall, the resort is impressive, and each hotel has a distinctly different look and vibe.
Getting There: Flying into Nassau is a breeze from Atlanta. The flight was a little over 2 hours, and getting through customs and to a cab was a breeze. Baha Mar is is less tan 15 minutes from 15 minutes from the airport.
What to Do: Nassau is all about culture and water fun. There’s tons of options of things to do:
- Fish Fry: Long strip of authentic Bahamian food
- Baha Bay Waterpark: Entrance into the waterpark is free for Baha Bay guests. The waterpark is huge and features several waterslides, wave pool, lazy river and surf simulation.
- SLS Day party: For a more Miami pool party type vibe, grab a cabana at SLS’ adult only Privilege pool. Reserve before arriving for a Friday or Saturday to really turn up.
- Day Trip to Exuma: Really looking to make the trip unforgettable, splurge on a day trip to Exuma to swim with the pigs and sharks. Bahamas Air offers a package that includes roundtrip airfare, boat to Pig beach, lunch, and other sites to blow your mind.
Nightlife: Baha Bar has a night club on the property, Bond. Although it wasn’t open while I was there, there were several other options for entertainment at the resort and the rest of the island. Want to say on the resort? Visit SLS’s rooftop bar, Skybar, for a great view of the island and great drinks. Another nightlife option, go across the island to Atlantis to visit the casino or club which recently hosted Doja Cat for New Year’s or Xscape lounge, a large tourist club. However if you’re looking for adult entertainment, which is frowned upon in Nassau, visit Cheetah.
Be sure to try the romantic Costa restaurant at Rosewood, which was by far my favorite meal during my trip. Experience the “floating” cabanas and open air atmosphere while enjoying gourmet Mexican meals. Check out my tiktok and IG to see videos.
Getting Around: I didn’t have much luck with ride share apps in Nassau. I suggest renting a car or flag taxi’s from the hotel or restaurants is best.
COVID:
Arrival Requirements:
Vaccinated | Unvaccinated |
Negative rapid or PCR test within 3 days of arrival | Negative PCR test within 3 days of arrival |
Bahamas Health Visa |
To return to the US, the resort does offer onsite complimentary rapid COVID testing, which was super easy to schedule.
Layover LaShawn Tip: In my opinion, Grand Baha Mar is somewhat expensive. It is a cashless resort. Upon check in to any of the resorts, you are given a bracelet to use at the restaurants, bars and casino. Although this is convenient, it can lead to higher costs as you tend to forget how much you’ve spent. In addition to the $59 daily resort fee, be aware of the 15% mandatory gratuity on food & beverage as well as an additional 12.5% VAT tax on everything (on or off property).
